Default Leprosy colony on Molokai

I read some very interestng things about the leper colony on Molokai - Jack London wrote a piece called "The Lepers of Molokai" - plus there are some news articles about the place.

I had heard something about the colony before, but apparently it still exists. That was news to me. Obviously, leprosy isn't a problem anymore since it's a curable condition now, but some of the last remaining patients still live on the colony by choice. It's their home.

I thought that was pretty interesting. The place even adheres to old rules from the sixties and no one is allowed to visit without a permit. But I think this is more for privacy.

Quite possibly one of the last places on Earth where one could find privacy. Here on the Mainland, everyone including the government has their nose in your business. LOL!

So there is a leper colony?
Wow, I thought that sort of thing stopped existing in the 1800's.
Im sure its not much of a tourist destination.

I dont think they still have leprosy though.
I think the location remains and the descendants still live there, I guess they are used to that particular way of life and enjoy it.
